Also includes financial information of C.G. Sargent, 1850-1880. Contains bills and receipts, 1851-1884; order books, 1857-1908; payrolls, 1864-1884, 1895-1901; inventories, 1908-1917; blueprint files, ca. 1919-1945; photograph files by machine type, c. 1900-1913; and parts and pattern lists, 1855-1913. Also contains records of Chauncy Mills, located in Graniteville and making worsted hosiery. Includes general business correspondence, 1877-1878; annual inventories, 1875-1878; a ledger, journal, daybook, and cashbook, 1878-1883. Also contains records, 1900-1920, of James M. Sargent Co. of Graniteville, which manufactured parts for automobiles; records, 1866-1879, of the Stony Brook Water Power Co., of Westford, Mass., incorporated in 1866 by C.G. Sargent and others to maintain reservoirs in Westford; and a journal, 1864-1870, of Barlow Combing Co., located in Graniteville.

The company, located in Graniteville, a locality in Westford, Mass., was founded in 1854 as a partnership of two machinists and inventors, Francis A. Calvert and Charles G. Sargent. It primarily manufactured wool preparatory machinery, including burring, picking, washing, and drying machines. C.G. Sargent also developed and manufactured the "New England comber." C.G.
